盧西亞恩是一位健康狀況每況愈下的戲劇演員。他在舞臺上忘詞，日常生活中感到困惑和格格不入。最終，他決定結(jié)束自己的演藝生涯，不久后搬進(jìn)了一家養(yǎng)老院。在這個新環(huán)境里，這位年邁的老人深深懷念他已故的妻子。他開始做一些似乎變得真實的噩夢。在其中一個夢境中，他發(fā)現(xiàn)了一條通往一個充滿魔幻色彩的世界的通道，這個世界與他的劇院有著迷惑性的相似之處。
盧西亞恩開始在兩個平行的維度中生活——現(xiàn)實生活和童話世界，這兩個世界逐漸相互依存并交織在一起。他對這個虛構(gòu)世界的沉浸最終引向了一個出人意料的結(jié)局。這是一個關(guān)于生命流逝的苦樂參半的論述。盧西亞恩創(chuàng)造的童話世界與其說是對死亡的隱喻，不如說是對死亡即將到來的象征性和解。
